A website has been launched to help businesses win contracts as part of Surrey County Council’s pledge to keep spending local.

BuildSurrey allows companies to pitch for construction and repair work the county council and its main contractors need doing.

Builders and electricians can also compete for work from other public sector organisations, including district and borough councils.

The site, created by the county council, will help promote economic growth as part of its pledge to ensure 60 per cent of its spending on goods and services goes to local businesses.

Peter Martin, deputy leader of Surrey County Council, said: “In the current climate, we must do everything we can to support the local economy and our aim is to ensure 60 per cent of the county council’s spending is with local businesses.

“There can be no better way for the council to help local firms thrive than by putting money in their bank accounts through the BuildSurrey website.”

Businesses can attend a free event at Epsom Racecourse on Thursday, February 7, to register on the site, get advice about winning contracts and find out more about work in the pipeline.
