Children in Lambeth are more likely to attend a good or outstanding primary school than pupils in most other parts of the country, according to a report released by Ofsted.
84 per cent of Lambeth children attend a primary school that is rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ according to Ofsted, putting Lambeth eighth equal for local authority areas out of 150 LAs nationwide.
Lambeth’s percentage compares with a figure of just 42 per cent in the lowest performing areas of the country.
The results have been revealed in the new report of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills published yesterday.
Councillor Rachel Heywood, cabinet member for children and young people on the council, said: “This is fantastic recognition for the quality of our primary schools and shows that if you live in Lambeth, your child is more likely to go to a good or outstanding school than virtually anywhere else.
"We all want our children to get the best possible opportunities and best start in life, and this proves that Lambeth’s primary schools are among the best anywhere.
“We are not complacent and we will continue to lobby the government to provide more school places for children in Lambeth. But these results are testament to the fantastic headteachers, governors and teaching staff we have at Lambeth’s schools and the excellent relationship between our schools, the local authority and the community.”
