A hooded gang robbed a supermarket and assaulted a member of staff in West Norwood last night.
A witness saw about 20 people get off the number 2 bus then raid the Tesco Express in Norwood Road at about 9pm.
He said: "I could see the gang filled their pockets with stock. Fighting took place inside and outside the shop with the gang and staff members.
"I contacted the police who were very slow in arriving. In fact, when they did arrive it was one male officer!"
A police spokesman said: "A group of people had entered the store, stolen items and one member of staff has been assaulted."
The incident comes just after NatWest closed their branch on Norwood Road on Friday claiming the area is too dangerous for it to remain open.
Bank staff were attacked at the branch in August, the seventh such incident in 11 years.
