Photographs of rock and roll legends The Who playing at Cheam Bath Hall are expected to fetch hundreds of pounds at auction.

Fourteen black and white pictures of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and the late John Entwistle and Keith Moon will go under the hammer on November 15.

The rhythm and blues trailblazers were at the end of a 217 show tour in 1966 when the shots were taken by a friend of the gigs promoter.

Although the band were yet to reach the heady heights of super stardom when they played in Cheam, they already had a cult following and had played the NME Poll Winners Party.

The gig was in fact a night before a now legendary New Years Eve shindig with The Move and Pink Floyd at The Roundhouse.

Auctioneer Catherine Southon said: "These photographs were brought to the valuation day at Warlingham and had been given to Danny Parker from South Croydon, who was the gig's promoter. His friend took the photos and subsequently gave them to him as a gift."

One image is of Pete Townsend performing his 'windmill', which he had recently stolen from Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards whom he had seen doing the move whilst warming up.

It was also one of the first concert's for the bands new roadie, Bob Pridden, who is still with them today.

In rockumentary The Who Concert File, Pridden recalls having to pay for a new guitar out of his own pocket when Townshend's was stolen backstage at the gig.
