A former Kingston College student was stabbed to death in South Lambeth last night, making him the 21st teenager to be killed violently in London this year.

The 18-year-old, named locally as Frederick Moody, was found with one or more stab wounds to his abdomen by officers at 7.05pm in Guildford Road, just yards from his home.

He was taken to hospital but died there at 8.15pm.

This morning a 16-year-old youth from the Brixton area was arrested in connection with the killing and is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Frederick had studied a BTEC first diploma in business studies at Kingston College, but only stayed for eight weeks from last September until November, when he withdrew from the course for personal reasons.A spokeswoman from Kingston College said that during the short time Frederick studied there he was actively engaged in the classroom, a team player and made a positive contribution to college life.

The college's vice principal, Karen Spencer, said: "Our college community is deeply grieved to hear that this has happened and we are all shocked and saddened.

"The death of any teenager is a tragic loss and our hearts go out to Frederick's family."

Police said they think up to eight males were involved in the assault on the victim.

The suspects are described at this early stage as wearing hooded tops and some were possibly in possession of bikes.

The victim's next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating.

An open mind is being kept as regards a motive.

Any witnesses or any one with any information can call local police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
