A 21-year-old man arrested in connection with the murders of French students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, has been released without charge.
Mr Ferez, of South Norwood, and Mr Bonomo, both 23, were bound, gagged and stabbed to death in a bedsit in Sterling Gardens, New Cross on Sunday night.
The Met said the man was arrested at 3.40am and is in custody at a police station in south-east London.
Mr Ferez had been visiting his friend at his rented New Cross flat at the time of the murder.
Postmortem examinations have revealed the men - both from France and working on a three month research project at Imperial College - were seriously injured before the flames took hold, each with stab wounds to their head, neck and chest.
The pair had been stabbed a total of 243 times.
