Update: Arrests follow Raynes Park assault

Five men have been arrested in connection with the attack on a man in Raynes Park early yesterday morning.

A spokeswoman from Merton police said the men have all been remanded in custody pending further inquiries.

The man, believed to be 26 years old, was found unconscious at 12.13am in Grand Drive yesterday.

The London Ambulance Service sent two fast response cars and an ambulance to the scene.

Police closed the road while they investigated the incident.

The man's injuries were initially thought to be life threatening but he is now in a serious but stable condition at a south London hospital.

Wimbledon CID, who are investigating the incident, said they were treating it as GBH and were keeping an open mind regarding the motive of the attack.

The incident is not thought to be related to the UEFA Champions League final on Wednesday night.
