Lead thieves target Addlestone church
Lead thieves have been targeting an Addlestone church.
St Paul's Church in School Lane has been the victim of a number of thefts over the past month.
Surrey Police are calling on the public to be alert and report any suspicious incidents.
Addlestone Town Safer Neighbourhood Team, which is made up of PC Steve Milford and Police Community Support Officer Hannah Cheverton, have carried out a number visits to the church to offer security.
Other options being investigated include improving lighting at the church to help prevent thefts and greater CCTV coverage for the area from the Safer Runnymede Team.
Police will also be increasing the number of patrols in the area by both the Safer Neighbourhood Team and response units.

PC Maureen Ions, Crime Prevention Advisor for Runnymede, who visited the church said: "The high price of scrap metal has seen an increase in the number of thefts of lead - with premises like churches and schools being particularly vulnerable.
"Surrey Police is encouraging all churches, schools and other premises to take the opportunity to check their security in an effort to reduce the opportunity for such crimes.
"Surrey Police will continue to listen to and support the community to take strong action to demonstrate that offences of this nature will not be tolerated.
"The previous incidents, particularly at St Paul's Church in Addlestone, have been regrettable but police are aware of the situation and we will continue to work with church staff and do everything possible to prevent any further incidents."
Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious activity in the Addlestone area or with any information on lead thefts should contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
For further security advice on reducing the chances of becoming a victim of lead theft please contact PC Ions on 0845 125 2222.
