Doswell takes the reins at Gander Green Lane

Suuton United have secured former Eastleigh FC number two Paul Doswell as new first team manager.

Doswell boasts an impressive record at the Hampshire club, having guided them from the Wessex League to Blue Square South in three years.

Last season, he was assistant to Ian Baird at Eastleigh, before resigning last week to sign a two-year contract at Gander Green Lane.

He hopes to be able to confirm his support staff by the end of next week.

Sutton chairman Bruce Elliott said: "We are delighted to welcome Paul to Gander Green Lane.

"He has a proven track record in management at this level and has a clear vision of how he wants to build his team here."

Doswell, who won the BBC South Sports award in 2006 for his management achievements at Eastleigh said: "After a lengthy meeting with the board, I am delighted to commit myself to Sutton United for the next two years - and hopefully longer.

"The club has a massive tradition in the Non-League game and I am honoured to be given the opportunity to help resurrect its fortunes.

"It was the club's fantastic support that drew my attention to the club and I feel one of my main jobs is to put a smile back on their faces!

"In the main, that can be achieved by winning football matches."

United were forced to look for a new manager after caretaker boss Jimmy Dack had turned down the opportunity to take the job on a permanent basis last week.
