Boris meets NY counterpart
Boris Johnson met New York mayor Michael Bloomberg to exchange ideas and talk through issues that affect both cities such as transport, crime and the environment.
Combating crime in the capital was at the forefront of Johnson's election campaign, with the Tory MP promising New York-style policing.
His proposal involved the kind of mapping now being done in New York, where local police commanders are made responsible for the crime rates in their districts.
Mr Bloomberg, who spent Thursday in Belfast for talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, met the new London Mayor yesterday.
He was also to tour a school in the capital with Tory leader David Cameron.
Upon accepting his new role earlier this week, Mr Johnson reiterated his pledge to "lead the fightback" against violent crime.
Johnson, who defeated Labour's Ken Livingstone to become mayor, has also pledged to make good on campaign promises to build affordable homes, improve bus services and crack down on minor crime on public transport.
