Woman attacked by red devils
A woman walking through Epsom was left with cuts and bruises after being assaulted by a group of men dressed as red devils.
The attack took place as she was walking alone down London Road between 8.20pm and 8.40pm on Saturday March 15 when she was confronted by a group of between six and eight males in fancy dress.
One of the males in the group jumped at the woman and knocked her to the ground, as a second man then jumped over her as she lay on the pavement. A third member of the group helped her to her feet.
As the group left the area, a family who saw the attack crossed the road to speak to the victim and made sure she was not badly injured.
Detective Constable Rebecca Tiffin, who is leading the investigation, said: "The groups of males who committed this offence may have thought this was just a bit of fun but that is clearly not the case when a member of the public gets hurt.
"The victim was left very shaken by this incident and had done nothing to provoke the group to target her. I am determined to track down those responsible.
"Given their costumes I'm sure many people who were out in Epsom on the night in question would remember this group of males and I would urge anyone with any information to contact Surrey Police."
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information should contact DC Tiffin at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference A/08/6130 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

hardly an attack is it. sounds more like someone bumped into her. knocked her over then someone helped her up.
nice to know police are spending their time on stuff like this

As a woman, if a bunch of males jump at you and you fall, you are scared for your life. Ric wouldn't understand the fear women have walking down the street minding their own business inthe early evening. Luckily this didn't turn ugly, but how easy would it have been for this lady to have become a rape or murder byline inthe paper. These sorts of things, even if not meant horribly, are meant to scare women and that makes all women fear men, which is a assault on a persons ability to trust. Guys like these don't do men any favours.

It's difficult to tell from the usual "half a story" in the paper what the full facts are. If this was a frail or elderly woman, I have sympathy, otherwise, it sounds like a bit of overzealous drunken tomfoolery on the part of the men, which may well take the "no win, no fee" route to some big money as compensation for the "victim", if the thoughtless "devil" is ever identified.

men have just the same problems as women when it comes to safety. except your less likely to get helped to your feet if it was an accident and your male.
i've never heard of a serious attacker help his victim for to their feet after an attack.
that leads me to believe it was an accident.

hardly seems like an assault, sounds like the women was accidentally knocked down as she was helped up after. It looks like the men were all out on a drink up or a party if they were dressed up as devils.

Why has it taken nearly two weeks to post this report??? sounds like the reporter has made this incident sound worse than it actually was!!

The front page of the national Guardian today reports that 'NACRO' have claimed that police are using low-level crimes to meet crime detection targets - is this story by Aaron moon an example of that claim? The definition of attack is 'to launch a physical assault'. Reading this article, it worries me that evocative language is being used to sensationalise a minor incident.

Incidents like this should be reported prank or not. I personally was the victim of a gang of young thugs who thought it funny to terrorize a lone young woman simply walking through my local park after being subjected to verbal abuse I was then attacked and beaten up.
