Man crushed by marble slab
A man is in a critical condition after being trapped underneath a 5 tonne slab of marble.
The huge stone dropped onto the worker as it was being lifted off the back of a lorry at Marble City in Smugglers Way, Wandsworth.
Firefighters arrived at the factory last Thursday afternoon to find staff had freed the man, who has been named locally as Ronald Douglas.
Witnesses said he had turned blue.
An ambulance crew treated him for multiple injuries and he was taken to St George's Hospital in a serious condition.
He is believed to be in his 30s.
A spokesman for St George's Hospital said he remained in a critical condition.
The incident is under investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.
