Four-day train strike suspended
 |
| Normal service: Train drivers' union ASLEF has called off next week's strike |
A four-day strike by South West Trains' drivers has been suspended.
The train drivers' union ASLEF had planned four days of strike action on the South West Trains (SWT) network from midnight on Monday in a dispute over pay.
SWT, one of the country's biggest rail operators, runs services through much of south-west London including London Waterloo and Clapham Junction.
After pay talks yesterday ASLEF confirmed that next week's strike action has been suspended
to allow its executive committee to consider three options put forward by SWT.
The options being considered by ASLEF offer one, two or three-year pay deals, which SWT says also meets the union's requests about reducing the length of driving shifts.
SWT managing director Stewart Palmer said: "I am very pleased ASLEF has suspended the strike action which was planned for next week as this would have caused disruption for thousands of passengers."
