Burglar duped elderly woman with ferret lie
An e-fit of the suspect
An e-fit of the suspect

Police have released an e-fit of a man who burgled a pensioner after telling her his ferret was in her back garden.

The 80-year-old woman answered the door to the man and let him into the garden through a side gate and brought out a torch to help him look for the missing animal.

The suspect then told the victim he believed the ferret may have gone into the house.

After letting the man in through the kitchen and into the sitting room, she asked the suspect if he believed it could have gone upstairs.

The victim was halfway up the stairs when the suspect said he had found the ferret.

The woman later discovered £200 in cash was gone from her wallet and phoned police.

The incident took place at an address in The Roundway, on Monday, February 25, between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

The suspect is described a white man in his early 40s, with thinning fair hair. He wore a dark pullover.

Detective Constable Sarah McCabe said: "This was a cruel incident where a cynical offender has abused the trust of a vulnerable resident and made off with a considerable amount of cash.

"Distraction burglaries are such a despicable crime because the offenders target elderly and vulnerable people and exploit their kindness to steal money and valuable possessions.

"I am determined to bring those responsible to justice and I would urge any members of the public who were in the area at the time and saw anything unusual to contact police."

Witnesses or anyone with any information should contact DC McCabe at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference A/08/4560 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

What a low life scum bag this guy is. I totally agree with the police officer when she says that this is a despicable crime. I sincerely hope they catch this parasite. Hanging is too good for the likes of him !
