Personal Overview - From a business and banking background, he successfully won this former Conservative seat lost in the Labour landslide year of 1997. He has built up his local profile by becoming a local Councillor and involving himself in local community concerns such as improving public transport, street cleanliness and regeneration. He will need to maintain a strong local presence to retain a seat in an area of London that appears to be trending towards Labour. His profile rose as an opposition Transport spokesman, but was only able to translate this into a junior Government role as a PPS following the 2010 election, however he achieved promotion at the 2012 reshuffle to become a junior Minister.
