Personal Overview - Won the seat of Harlow in 2010 at the third attempt. He has been locally active in the Harlow area for a number of years and has shown considerable interest in social justice. He has been Patron of the Harlow Homeless Centre and is a strong supporter for volunteering and charities. Within the Conservative Party he has been an Advisory Board Member of Iain Duncan-Smith's Centre for Social Justice. Locally he has also campaigned on law and order and countryside development and has also been prepared to take part in sponsored activities to support the causes that he is concerned about. Has shown a strong interest in education issues, having organised a literary competition for Harlow schools and lobbying Essex County Council for more special needs facilities. Is a supporter of Harlow Alzheimers Society and started the campaign called www.fedupwithharlowtraffic.com, concerned with traffic volumes in the Harlow area. He has also written a number of articles on subjects including Corporate Responsibility, Social Justice, Russia and Conservatism.

Political History - Has worked as a former Chief of Staff to Oliver Letwin MP. Member of Conservative Way Forward. Won the National Conservative Excellence Award for Social Action (2008). Has been a Roydon Parish Councillor. General Election candidate for Harlow (2001, 2005). MP Harlow (2010-). Member of the Public Administration Select Committee (2010-).

Characteristics - Has been a Trustee of Harlow Employability. Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Member of the Co-operative Society. Member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Social Justice. Former Governor of Passmores School. Member of the Harlow British Legion and Royal Overseas League. Is a Chelsea FC supporter and season ticket holder. He also has a large collection of watches. Has travelled to Rwanda to teach English on a special project called Umabano (fellowship).

MEP Since - 2009 Born - 30/08/49 Married, 3 sons.
Education - Education: Blickling Lodge School. Hordle House School. Gordonstoun School. Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester (Agricultural Science) (2 years), gained the MRAC with the McLennan Silver Medal. National Diploma in Agriculture.

Previous Occupation - Worked in a school in India at the age of 18, teaching English for 1 year. Worked in a dairy farm in Buckinghamshire for 1 year. Farm Manager in the UK (3 years), worked in South Africa, had several jobs including working for Prudential. Soil and Water Conservation Officer for the Ministry of Agriculture in Rhodesia (1975-76), Rhodesian Army (1975-76). Employed on the family farm (1977-83). Ran the family farming business in Fakenham, Norfolk (1983-).

Personal Overview - Elected to the European Parliament in 2009 from second place on the party list. Experienced farmer who has since 1983 ran his family farm in Norfolk. Has been active within the National Farmers Union in Norfolk for a number of years. He is well travelled, having worked in India, South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Joined UKIP in 1999, dismayed at the way the European Union regulated Farming. Has previously stood as a candidate at both a National and Local level.

Political History - Joined UKIP (1999). Chairman of the Norwich and Norfolk Branch (2003-05), has been a member of the Agricultural Policy Group. Member of the Regional Committee (2004-05). Substitute member of the Constitutional Affairs Committee (2011-). Member of the Fisheries Committee (2012-).
