Geeks gathered, an array of guests assembled and records were broken as the first MCM London Comic Con of 2016 proved to be another blockbuster smash.

ExCel in east London was the place to be over the bank holiday weekend for fans of sci-fi, film, TV, online video, comic books, gaming, anime and cosplay.

And these fans certainly flocked, with the three-day pop culture festival attracting a record attendance of 133,156 people that beat its previous best of 130,560.

You can see many of these people, including a lot in creative costumes based on favourite characters, by flicking through our gallery of 97 photos above.

The impressive guest list was headlined by Batman v Superman and The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg along with Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch from The Big Bang Theory.

There was also a galaxy of stars from other sci-fi, superhero, fantasy and crime franchises, including Agents of SHIELD, 12 Monkeys, Arrow, Game of Thrones, and NCIS to name just a few.

Guests from the world of animation included Adventure Time's Jeremy Shada, Venture Bros creator Jackson Publick, anime director Michael Arias and the designer and producer from Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin III, the European premiere of which was held at the event.

The show's Comic Village was home to more than over 200 talented creators, while other attractions included an online video zone featuring top YouTubers such as The Yogscast, Tomska and Meg Turney.

Other highlights included the UK qualifiers for the World Cosplay Summit, eSports tournaments, video game publishers showing off some of the latest games and of course hundreds of retailers and exhibitors.
