Lindsay Lohan has said she was abused by an ex-fiance and expressed her anger that nobody stood up for her.

The actress, who came under fire for defending disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, said she is for the empowerment of women.

In a lengthy Instagram post next to a screenshot of herself in the 1998 film The Parent Trap, she wrote: “Whatever anyone says, I am FOR #womenempowerment as if most women in America cared how I was abused by my exfiance… when not one person stood up for me while he was abusing me…”

She added: “You could only imagine what it feels like to come out as a #strongwoman BUT, acknowledge this, we all make our own choices and wake up in our own beds in the morning.

“I prefer to go to my home and wake up alone. #BESTRONG let us not blame anyone as #karma will always takes its toll #womensrights.”

Last week Lohan came to Weinstein’s defence after numerous women accused him of assault and harassment.

She called for everyone to “stop” in an Instagram video which she later deleted.

She added: “I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now. I don’t think it’s right what’s going on.

“I think (wife) Georgina (Chapman) needs to take a stand and be there for her husband. He’s never harmed me and done anything wrong to me and we’ve done several movies together.”
