Julianne Moore may have won Oscar and Bafta awards this year, but she has apparently failed to impress the Turkish tourism board.

The Hollywood star, who won best actress gongs for her performance as a linguistics professor with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease in Still Alice, was rejected from appearing in a promotional film about the country, with Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Ministry officials citing her “poor acting”, according to reports.

According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, the ministry demanded a reshoot, which the actress declined. The project was then cancelled.

Julianne was announced as the face of the Home Of film, which was shot in Los Angeles in 2014.

Despite the casting choice criticised by a number of Turkish figures including politicians, who claimed she had a “depressive persona”, advertising agency owner Emre Yucel said she was the right choice.

“I can’t understand why she is not liked here,” he said at the time.

In the promotional film, the actress was seen revisiting her childhood journeys to Turkey.
