Leonard Nimoy has died aged 83 at the end of a long and prosperous life. But although the prolific actor will always be remembered as Mr Spock on Star Trek, there was another role he was arguably even better in – the cameo role.

1. Columbo

In hilariously titled episode “A Stitch in Crime”, Nimoy basically plays Spock in a labcoat – but with murderous intentions.

2. Star Trek: The Next Generation

Okay so it’s still Star Trek, but it was always great to see Spock return to the enterprise to berate Patrick Stewart and co.

3. Spitting Image

We’d explain the relevance of the 1980s satire… but all that really matters is THAT puppet.

4. Duckman

If you haven’t heard of US animated sitcom Duckman, Wikipedia has all the description you need: “The series follows Eric T. Duckman, a lascivious, widowed, anthropomorphic duck who lives with his three sons, his mother-in-law, and his sister-in-law Bernice (his late wife Beatrice’s identical twin) in Los Angeles.”

Yep, it was great even before Nimoy cameoed.

5. The Simpsons

Nimoy appeared in two episodes of The Simpsons, with his parts dubbed “one of the best Simpsons cameos ever”. And there have been a lot of great Simpsons cameos over the years…

6. Futurama

And yes, Nimoy also appeared as a preserved head in the Matt Groening series he was always more likely to turn up in.

7. The Transformers: The Movie

Nimoy voiced Galvatron in the 1986 animated movie.

8. Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Nimoy cleared his famous vocal chords 25 years later for his second Transformers feature when he voiced Sentinel Prime in the 2011 live-action feature.

9. Big Bang Theory

Leonard had a very small part in the hit science-nerd sitcom. It’s safe to say that painfully intelligent physicist Sheldon has somewhat of a man-crush on him.

10. Star Trek: Into Darkness

Finally Nimoy returned to the franchise that launched his career all those decades ago. You might just spot him under all those prosthetics in this film – he was a very convincing older version of Zachary Quinto.
