EVER since Julianne Moore graced the Bafta catwalk in a ketchup red panelled gown, 70s fashion has started creeping onto the high street.

Head to toe in Tom Ford, the ever-elegant actress radiated with hippie era glamour - just before scooping the Best Actress award.

(Is it just me or has no-one else heard of Still Alice either...?)

The Bafta winner was covered up to the neck, wrists and all the way to the floor with the statuesque, column-like construction which screamed 70s.

But the chest cut out teamed against the striking blood coloured material let the dress sizzle for itself.

Vintage is no stranger in the fashion climate of today, but this era has not exactly made its comeback - nor, I imagine, have people thought it would.

Yet here we are staring at tassels, knee-high suede boots and a wash of browns and yellows dangling from retailers' hangers.

So the key is to carry off the old by giving it a twist of the new and whatever you do, don't go the whole hog.

Be brave with a nude, soft touch polo neck from Warehouse at £28.

It may be plain but it's a bold statement, modernised with split sides,

Match this with grey skinnies (or thick leggings if you can get away with it) and smart pumps. Or, heels for a night out.

Dress it up with a chunky necklace and go Julianne Moore glam with black nails.

Embrace the flower power of the past with Topshop's daisy print shirt dress at £55.

Black with yellows, oranges and white, this short nigh neck dress is sophisticated enough for work but pretty enough for play.

Match with platform sandal heels to give the decade-past look another dimension.

Keep in the wardrobe for those summer festivals when hats and kneel-highs will give you the perfect late 60s Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club finish.
