More than 6,000 people came together in the sunshine to join in with all the fun at the 100th Claygate Flower and Village Show.

People of all ages descended on the Claygate Recreation Ground on Saturday, July 20, which was filled with 2,000 exhibits in the huge marquee.

From floral displays to creations from talented youngsters, there was something for everyone at the summer fair.

One of the show’s most eye-catching displays was the size of the cabbages and lettuces, as were the creative collages in the junior section of the show, which compared the 100th show with the first show back in 1903.

As the sun continued to shine throughout the day, so did the entertainment – attracting more than the village’s 5,350 registered voters.

Children and adults alike relaxed with the blue skies above them and enjoyed martial arts performances from Kuk Sool Won and the dog show, which is always a firm favourite with families.

On the other side of the recreation ground, children competed in a number of sporting activities, while others enjoyed the fairground.

Showing off their talents, the first Claygate Guide and Scout band treated people to a performance filled with trumpets, trombones and clarinets.

Creativity was at its finest at the fancy dress parade, with the winning costume a Claygate school girl then and now.

The youngster’s right side was dressed in a 1903 costume, complete with a blackboard, while her left side was dressed in a present day costume complete with iPad.

In true flower and village show fashion, 800 brightly coloured balloons filled the sky for the great balloon race, which was organised by Claygate Primary School’s PTA.

The show will return to Claygate next July.
