Here Is the Blues is a duo, comprising two blues legends - Billy Jenkins and Steve Morrison. They bring their sensational two man, two guitar, two-voiced programme of topical blues to Brooks Blues Bar in Putney this week - rare London date for them.
Not to be confused with superficial zaniness, Jenkins and Morrison are a supremely clever and heartfelt duo, singing songs of wisdom, sadness, stupidity and human nature - both original and reworked blues classics.
Former St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Jenkins is regarded as being as English' as strawberries and cream, and has been in countless bands on the fringes of the mainstream for nearly fourty years. He brings an anarchic, jazz-tinged edge to the sound, while Morrison's foundations are all brooding and cinematic.
This is talent which should go beyond blues fans, to anybody who appreciates lyrical dexterity, unique guitar work and the idiosynchrosies of two slightly eccentric men with something to say.
