Croydon rappers Krept and Konan won the best newcomer prize at the MOBO Awards.
The pair were announced as the winners at the 18th annual awards ceremony in Glasgow on Saturday evening.
Their win means the duo join just a handful of artists to be awarded the prestigious MOBO- Music Of Black Origin award while still unsigned.
After being presented with the award, the delighted pair took to Twitter with Krept (real name Casvo Johnson) tweeting "We f****** did it. Best newcomers! Thankyou."
Konan (real name Karl Wilson), later added: "I had so much things to say in my head when I was walking to get the award then when it came down to the speech my mind when blank - was so shocked."
The award follows an emotional few months for Mr Wilson, who released a song about the murder of his stepfather Carlton Ned who was shot at his home in Thornton Heath in July 2011.
In August, Christopher Thomas of Tulse Hill, was jailed for life for the murder, speaking to the Croydon Guardian at the time, Mr Wilson said he was pleased with the sentence.
