Being the only daughter of Hollywood star David Soul brings with it its own pressures, especially when you are trying to launch a singing career.

China Soul released her debut single earlier this year and has her first album on the way, but insists she is not cashing in on her dad's name.

"At first I used to keep absolutely quiet," she says.

"Then I just started realising he is my dad and I can't keep that quiet but it does add pressure.

"I also think it is important to have something that makes you stand out as it is such a competitive industry to get noticed in.

"Some people will say it is just because I am his daughter that I am doing these things but I think that the album is backed up by talent as well.

"He cries every time he listens to it - because he is happy not because it's so bad, or at least I hope not."

Being the only daughter of a Hollywood superstar is not the only pressure pushing down on China's 21-year-old shoulders right now, she is also in the final few months of a creative writing degree at Royal Holloway University.

But it is her music she is really concentrating on now.

Single Cold came out in January while she and co-writer Chaz Jankel of The Blockheads are currently in discussions with several labels about releasing album Secrets and Words.

"I absolutely love the album," she says.

"Chaz and I spent a year working really hard on it and I think we have come out with some very good stuff and I am really excited.

"Originally Chaz and I were only going to do a couple of songs together and then it kind of progressed to five songs and then it was the whole album.

"We just get on so well and it's very easy to work with him.

"Because I grew up in Los Angeles though I must admit I had never heard of him but perhaps that was good otherwise I would have been like 'oh my God how am I going to work with this person?'"
