Theatre: A Chorus Line at Battersea Arts Centre

A group of students in their final year of a musical theatre degree will be looking to impress industry agents at Battersea Arts Centre next week.

Award-winning musical A Chorus Line is being performed by students of the Mountivew Academy of Theatre Arts who spend the entire third year of their course out of the classroom and on the stage performing show after show in an effort to catch the eyes of talent spotters and get a job.

This will be their second performance of the year as Eleanor Brown, who plays Cassie, explains.

"The final year of the course is just pure performance so this is our chance to show what we have done and get agents to come and watch and see what we can do," she says.

"It was probably a bit nerve wracking the first performance we did but this is our second one this year now so we are all used to it and having agents there is just part of it.

"We are just focussed on trying to do our best with the show."

A Chorus Line is all about a group of 17 Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line that was first performed in 1975 and went on to win nine Tony Awards and the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

It's a very energetic show and Eleanor admits rehearsals have been hard work.

"We have had four weeks of rehearsals which are all 12 hour days so it has been really hard work," she says.

"We have been on our feet dancing for 12 hours every day.

"The whole show we are on our feet stood in one line so it is quite a stretch for us and lots of dancing but at the same time it is amazing fun."

A Chorus Line, Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill, November 21 to 28, 7.30pm, £10. Call 020 7223 2223 or visit bac.org.uk.
