Rockstar games have announced further details of the upcoming Max Payne 3.

Set 12 years after the events of Max Payne 2 (2003), the game will see Max Payne working in Sao Paulo, providing personal protection for a wealthy family. Max will be visually older, more violent and world-weary.

Setting the game in Sao Paulo will give Rockstar the opportunity to introduce new obstacles for Max Payne to overcome. With one gun for every 75 individuals in the country, Max Payne will need every skill he has in order to survive

Rockstar have promised that the game will retain many of the trademarks established in its predecessors, including bullet-time, mature themes and Max's internal monologue. Rockstar will also introduce its own RAGE engine, a new technology that will deliver spectacular, highly advanced close-quarters combat, an intelligent cover system and a variety of gameplay in every level.

Max Payne 3 is expected for release in winter, 2009
