It’s easy to forget that Champagne doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg! (You can buy a bottle for just over £10 at Lidl and for £12 at Tesco and Iceland).

But how do you get the most out of your Champagne-drinking experience this Christmas?

1. Keep it cool. Chill the bottle for at least an hour before serving, and have an ice bucket to hand if it’s for a party or dinner.

2. When opening the bottle - twist the bottle, not the cork, because twisting the cork can make it break, and who wants bits of cork floating in their fizz?

3. Open the bottle at a 40-degree angle to ensure that the bubbles don’t overflow. Don't miss a bubble!

4. Did you know that you can pick up a lot more of the aromas of champagne if you serve it in a wine glass? Granted, they’re not as pretty as champagne flutes, but they will make the tasting experience all the better.
