Following his successful Beyond the Void talk in 2008, accomplished mountaineer Simon Yates will be returning to the Epsom Playhouse next month.

Mr Yates is one of the world’s best known mountaineers of his generation. He is best known for being the climber forced to cut Joe Simpson’s rope during their fateful descent of Peru’s Siula Grande - a story re-told in Mr Simpson’s bestselling book and the BAFTA award-winning film, Touching the Void, which made both men household names.

In his new talk, The Wild Within, Mr Yates will recount his experiences of teaming up with mountaineering legends Doug Scott, Andy Parkin and Joe Simpson. With his dry wit and humorous approach, he aims to captivate his audience with exhilarating stories from his most recent expeditions to Alaska, Greenland and Canada where he pioneered three first ascents and narrowly missed crashing his ski-plane on the Alaskan-Yukon border.

The mountaineer will also explore how technology, in our communication-driven era in which a mobile phone call can be made from Mount Everest, has changed the face of mountain-climbing and adventure. Using images and footage from his expeditions, he will take the audience on a journey into the world’s few remaining wildernesses.
