Outside the Box is continuing its season of Edinburgh previews next week with shows at Surbiton’s cornerHOUSE and Kingston’s Fighting Cocks. Tim Vine, Mark Watson and Reginald D Hunter will all be taking to the various stages as will Pappy’s, the Chortle-award winning sketch group formerly known as Pappy’s Fun Club. Tom Parry, from the trio, gave us the lowdown ahead of their two shows.
The Weekender: What have you got planned for this year's Edinburgh?
TP: Well the show is called All Business so this is the year that we are planning to get our act together to make our most slick, professional and efficient show yet. Not sure that's how it's gonna work out though!
TW: Best Edinburgh memory
TP: Probably in 2007 when we got nominated for Best Show.. Ben [Clark] was so excited he accidently punched himself in the crotch.
TW: Worst Edinburgh memory
TP: Flyering in the rain for our first two shows.
TW:Do you prefer the London crowd or the Edinburgh crowd?
TP:We like them both! The preview shows in London are always a voyage of discovery for us and then by the time we get to Edinburgh we can relax and enjoy performing the show.
TW: Tell us a joke
TP: Man walks into a bar, sees that sketch comedy is being performed in that bar and leaves.
TW: Comedy hero?
TP:Mr Show, an American Sketch show by Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. That and the Muppets.
TW: Best heckle you've received.
TP: When Matthew [Crosby] came onstage dressed as a medieval minstrel in Nottingham, Tom says: "And who is this?". A guy in the front row stood up and shouted "It's one of your mates in a silly hat. He's still not f****** funny"
TW: Hidden talent
TP: All three of us can levitate. It's how we met.
TW: Funniest thing you've read about yourself
TP: Someone once criticised us for being public school boys. None of us are!
TW: Whose sex face would you least like to see?
TP: Each others.
