Eco-friendly: Martin Linton MP has backed a strong
I have been asked by Friends of the Earth to write to my local paper and congratulate our MP Martin Linton as one of the many who have signed the Early Day Motion 736 - the parliamentary petition which calls for a strong climate change bill.
The House of Lords will have completed their progress and the next step is the House of Commons.
We really need to gain the support of our MPs and to add amendments to the Bill such as the requested 80 per cent carbon dioxide emission reduction target (currently 60 per cent) and the UK's share of emissions from international aviation and shipping.
The Bill also asks for the emissions reductions to be raised by 60 per cent to 80 per cent by 2050, that will allow us to avoid dangerous climate change.
I hope Martin Linton, and other MPs, will continue to support these important measures as the bill progresses through Parliament.
Throughout my long life I have always been a friend of the Friends of the Earth and I can't stop now!
