I have always admired and supported the borough's efforts in waste and recycling, but I wish to make the following comments of protest about the changes in green garden waste collections, which come into effect in June this year.
I find both of the council's information documents on "Important changes to waste and recycling services" misleading.
The first notice inferred that the £35 annual charge means that the council doesn't need to raise council taxes, but I suspect that such an increase would have been disallowed by national Government capping.

After receiving the second leaflet, I discovered that each sack costs £35! I am only allowed three of these sacks at a cost of £105 per annum.
I was told that the sacks are the same size as our current garden waste sacks and I can easily fill eight for the current fortnightly collection during the summer months.
Even if I bought three new sacks, I will still have to make fortnightly runs to the Kimpton Park Way recycling centre.
I live on the edge of the borough and a return trip to Kimpton Park Way by car is 14 miles.
That is going to cost me at least a litre-and-a-half of fuel to drive there, with the increase in my "carbon footprint".
If others end up in the same situation, then queues outside the Kimpton Park Way centre will increase, exacerbating the "carbon footprint" and taking me longer than the hour-plus it takes me to visit the centre.
It appears that I have no alternative but to accept this extra cost on my pocket and my time.

my neigbours have started burning there garden waste because of the cost of this collection. 7am wednesday morning we all woke up thinking our houses where on fire because one neighbour started to burn his garden waste at that time. This is not helping the carbon foot print

Now that we can take our garden refuse to the Viridor Waste Unit in Beddington Lane, when are the Council going to issue details of this new facility and that it starts next week, so that residents have an alternative to Kimpton Road.
