Heavily in debt, and having just sacked its chief executive, the question must be asked: What does the future hold for BAA?
Certainly, its stewardship of Heathrow is not beyond criticism. Lost baggage, dirt, and general discontent are reported on all sides. BA, one of the authority's main customers, has concerns.
Indeed, BA boss Willie Walsh has gone on record as saying that it does not provide value for money.

For some time now the Competition Commission has been looking closely at BAA's operation.
It has noted that BAA's monopoly brings into sharp focus one key question, namely, are the requirements of passengers being met?
So far, the answer would seem to be a resounding "No".
