Now Acton: Clive Soley, campaign director of Future Heathrow
On the subject of aircraft noise, I had to do my Victor Meldrew bit and say "I don't believe it" when I read Clive Soley, campaign director of Future Heathrow, saying "most of the noise from planes is caused by air frame noise, not the engine" (Staines Guardian, February 21).
Perhaps he was playing Joseph with Any Dream Will Do.
All I can say is that if he lived in Stanwell Moor or Cranford, Feltham or Hounslow West, or other parts of the noise preferential route instead of distant Putney or now Acton, he would find any dream hard because of the noise from low flying aircraft.
He wants to give us more lack of peace. Those advocating expansion should at least live in the area, so can we look forward to Lord Soley taking up residence in Stanwell Moor?
He says it is too late to shift traffic to any other airport but Heathrow is a shambles with many disgruntled passengers.
Both Gatwick, with good rail services to London, and Stansted would cause less flights over London. We should at least wait until T5 is fully operational to see if our infrastructure will grind to a halt.

How many people get stuck around junction 14 on the M25 at present? If the BA 777 had failed five minutes earlier and created a 9/11 in London, would there still be a cry for expansion?
