See sense over car parking charges

I read your article on parking charges with interest and wanted to add my voice to the many residents who have been unfairly hit by the hiked-up parking charges.

It appears that Elmbridge Council is only providing a car park at the station now for the very wealthy.

I am already paying £2,500 for the privilege of using public transport into London.

There is no justification for raising charges to such an extent when the car park furthest from the town centre was already a third empty.

I've noticed it is now less than half full which will somewhat ironically impact on the council's revenue.

In answer to those who say "walk", I do on most days but this adds 40 minutes to my journey and such matters as lousy weather, heavy bags and walking back late on dark nights all have to be taken into consideration.

The council has decided to tax me and other local residents to hit us in the pockets and make us all worse off. I hope someone will see sense and think again.

EMMA SWANN, Weybridge
