As a resident of north Nottinghamshire, I feel I can offer my experience of fortnightly rubbish collection, as we have had it since 2005.
For over two years, fortnightly rubbish collection has worked almost flawlessly with recycling increasing from 3 per cent to over 36 per cent and rising, the issue of recycling is now progressing to a much more mature level of discussion.
Minor problems of "contamination" (wrong plastics in the wrong bin) are running at an all time low (about 5 per cent) allowing large scale recycling and the consequent jobs increase and carbon dioxide reductions to follow at an all-time record.
Fear of change of the status quo unfortunately dominates many vital national and international issues that our growing population desperately needs.
From mine and the 750,000 Nottinghamshire residents' experience, the fortnightly question becomes a very, very trivial question when details of your local county council's contracts with large waste companies start to be revealed.
You desperately need to start asking your council about the details before you are left with a very large bill and a woeful 30-year contract.
Questions such as: Plans for incineration? Where will the toxic ash go? Local landfill site?
Recycling plans to stick to the Government minimum for 30 years at 52 per cent? Which can, and is, easily exceeded if there is the political will.
