Like your correspondent Lydia Browne (Letters, March 12), I too was taken aback by the stark and utilitarian appearance of the Rose Theatre when I first walked through its doors.
I'd heard that Kingston Council was strapped for cash after paying for the Rose Theatre, New Malden High Street and the long ongoing repairs, plus having to put so much by for the council's gold-plated pension fund, but I didn't realise how bad things were until it started targeting household parking.
Those living just outside Kingston have little to worry about Brian Paddick's pledge to introduce a £10 charge for driving into the greater London area.
