Anyone who feels that they could help should have their own car and be able to spare 1-1 hours a week. They will receive an allowance for petrol. If anyone out there can offer their services please ring Kathy Houghton on 01494 433839 between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday. The Amersham branch of Meals on Wheels is based at Amersham Community Centre in Chiltern Avenue.

REMEMBER I told you a couple of weeks ago that John Taylor of Chesham Bois would be walking along the Great Wall of China in aid of the Cancer Research Campaign? Well, I'm pleased to say that John returned home safely at the end of last week after six days of trekking with a mixed party of 83 people from all over the British Isles. They covered some 100 kilometres of rough, uneven terrain. They climbed 6000 feet of hills and walls, descended more or less safely, visited remote Chinese villages and apparently endured some very primitive accommodation. They walked in an area of the Great Wall some 130 kilometres north east of Beijing. The party ventured off the wall through local villages where they saw men riding donkeys and women washing clothes in the stream. John says that it was a most unforgettable experience.
The wonderful part about the whole incredible adventure is that John and the others raised £200,000 for Cancer Research at Birmingham University. What a magnificent achievement! I'm sure all our readers will agree. The appeal is still open if anyone would like to sponsor John. Please send any donations to John Taylor, 4 Holloway Lane, Chesham Bois, Amersham HP6 6DJ. Cheques should be made payable to Cancer Research Campaign Promotions Ltd. Every pound will be very welcome and fully used by the university. John certainly earned it on their behalf. Well done John. A marvellous achievement for such a well-deserved cause.
NOW, finally, calling all cat lovers, and I'm sure there must be many. The Cat's Protection League is, as usual, trying desperately to find loving homes for unwanted cats and kittens. At the moment they are trying to find a home for two beautiful tabbies, Mrs Muffin and her son Muffin. They really are very keen for them to be together as Mrs Muffin guards her kitten as though her life depended on it and the little fellow loves his mother dearly. Mrs Muffin has a wonderful temperament and he has inherited her loving and pleasant nature. I'm sure that these two adorable cats would make wonderful companions to someone who could give them a warm and loving home. I will be very interested to know if Mrs Muffin and young Muffin have found the loving home they so deserve. Please let me know. The Cat's Protection League number is 01494 814396.
