Partial road closure to take effect in Disraeli Road, Putney

A sewer repair is expected to force the partial closure of a road in Putney town centre for at least two weeks.

A spokesman for Wandsworth Council said “quite a big excavation” was required to fix the problem in Disraeli Road, close to Putney Rail station.

The council gave permission for UK Drainage Network - acting on behalf of a resident living in the street - to tackle the problem sewer from Thursday, July 22.

The spokesman said: “We will be monitoring the situation and pressing them to keep the works to the tightest timetable they can.”

He explained the responsibility lay with the resident to bring in the repair team because the work was being carried out on a branch pipe and not the central Thames Water-owned pipe.

He added: “If left unrepaired it could cause problems for the main road surface.”
