The creative director of Wallace and Gromit is to judge a short film competition about the National Cycle Network, which includes the Wandle Trail from Wandsworth to Carshalton.
Sustainable transport company Sustrans want to mark the network's 15th anniversary by compiling a collection of stories about the impact it has made on people’s lives.
They are looking for creative and original stories revealing why they people use the network, what they see and who they meet.
Prizes range from a family tour of the Aardman animation studios in Bristol to a mid-week break in a Forest Holidays Cabin.
Sustrans chief executive Malcolm Shepherd said: “The stories can be funny, witty, quirky or musical and the film doesn’t have to be technically brilliant - it can be recorded on a mobile phone providing it celebrates the diversity of how the network is used.”
TV presenter Adam Hart-Davis and Wallace and Gromit creative director, Merlin Crossingham, will select the best videos in the three age groups – under 11s, 11-17 and adults.
The videos, which should be no longer than two minutes, can be uploaded on myncn.org.uk from July 5 to September 30.
Mr Crossingham said: “The most important thing is to have fun producing your film because that enjoyment is likely to spill over to the audience, and inspire them to get out on the network.”
The National Cycle Network extends 12,000 miles. One million walking and cycling journeys are made on it every day.
As well as the Wandle Trail it covers other urban escapes such as Ingrebourne Valley near Dagenham and Lee Valley from Waltham Abbey to Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
