Former Conservative councillor Kevin Davis has drawn attention to the sorry state of some horse chestnut trees around Surbiton, apparently caused by a leaf miner moth.
The moth's larvae eats the insides of the leaves, making them turn brown and blotchy. It is feared that in some cases the tree could weaken and die as a result of the disease.
The pest has been spreading ever since it was first detected in Wimbledon in 2002, and now affects thousands of trees in the south of England.
Mr Davis has brought the issue up with the council and suggests anyone else noticing the problem should do the same.
