Kingston Council will tackle climate change head-on as part of a Government drive to reduce emissions at a community level.
The move is to be promoted through new climate change action packs which will provide practical tools and advice for tackling environmental issues.
Nearly 50 local planning authoriteis now require at least 10 per cent of energy to come from on-site renewable technolgy in large developments.
The Government is urging all local authorities to make this requirement part of their local development plan.
The Kingston Freecycle group is celebrating its 1,000th member.
The online community helps to match up unwanted goods with new owners, so save items from a trip to the tip.
The group had a stand outside the Bentall Centre on Saturday, July 22.

Kingston's Community Furniture Project is launching fortnightly open days to sell furniture collected by the council.
The will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month between August and October at Warehouse No 5, Adams House, New Malden, (entry via St Johns Road.) From 10am to 2pm. Telephone 020 8942 5500 for more information.
