More than £100,000 has been awarded to Sutton Council to research attitudes towards climate change.
The money has been provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to promote understanding and awareness of climate change over the next two years.
Sutton will use the funds to research current attitudes to climate change and promote action which will make a difference.
Helen Woolston, the council's environmental sustainability manager, said: "Sutton's outstanding track record in environmental initiatives has helped us win this important project. With this funding, we'll be able to offer a range of resources to help community groups, schools, businesses and other organisations learn about climate change. For example, we'll have a mobile display with interactive games and we'll also be offering a special puppet show.
"Our main message will be you can make a difference', even by making relatively small changes to your behaviour. For example, use a bike when you need to buy a few groceries and save the car for the big weekly shop."
Lead councillor for the environment Colin Hall added: "The extreme weather conditions this summer are a concrete warning of the realities of climate change. This project will help us get the long-term message across that local residents can make changes to minimise their own contribution to global warming."
