Help! We’re being swamped by trash

Britain is the dustbin of Europe, dumping more household waste into landfill than any other country in the European Union.

New figures compiled by the Local Government Association (LGA), shows UK households send more than 26.8million tonnes of rubbish to landfill every year, seven million tonnes more than any other country in Europe.

The LGA said an area the size of Warwick, which covers 109 square miles, is already taken up by landfill.
