Youngsters dig new playground project

| Hip hip hooray: Infant and nursery school pupils work on the school playground |
Volunteers began work transforming a school playground earlier this month, creating a new green learning space.
Hampton Infant and Nursery School is undergoing the transformation and pupils and residents, many of whom have children at the school, lent a hand on the first day on April 1 to prepare the ground for fencing and a new path.
The project is being run through RBS Supergrounds, a programme to improve school grounds funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland group and managed by Learning through Landscapes in partnership with the environment charity Groundwork, and more than 450 schools have already benefited.
Once it is completed, the Ripley Road school will have an environmental studies garden, which is designed to challenge the children's imaginations.
Damian Burke, headteacher, said: "We are thrilled to be starting work on our environmental studies garden.
"We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of parents in our garden team, including talented designers and builders, who are all making our dreams come true with the help of our wonderful workforce of volunteers and RBS Supergrounds."
