Saying pants to wastage
Nappy chappy: James Edser and his mum Catherine
Nappy chappy: James Edser and his mum Catherine

The green benefits of real nappies were promoted at a fashion show held at the Rotunda in Kingston.

Mariana Cervantes-Burchell, project manager at Kingston and Merton Real Nappy Network, said: "We wanted the event to show people not just how nice these nappies look but how much better for the environment they are."

She warned eight million disposable nappies are thrown away each day, not only creating a huge amount of waste, but releasing harmful methane into the atmosphere.
