Councils call on Kelly to decide on airspace
Sutton Council is one of 20 local authorities calling for the final decision on airspace changes to be made by the Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly.
The councils say they are concerned about the lack of any public meetings to explain the significance of the proposals for Stansted, Luton and Heathrow to the communities affected.
In a letter to Ms Kelly they said: "There has been very little attempt to make the public aware of the consultation. These may be technical matters but the issues are ones on which any citizen has a right to express a view.

"The Government has a duty to ensure that people in those communities are aware of what is being proposed."
Councillor Sean Brennan, leader of Sutton Council, said: "The Government has to face up to the consequences of its policy of relentless expansion in the south-east.
"In the future there will be fewer and fewer communities who can escape aircraft noise.
"We can't afford a repeat of the fiasco of the third runway consultation. Decisions about where aircraft fly and where the holding stacks are located must be made in the open.
"These are major changes which will have an irrevocable effect on people's quality of life."
