Sign up for schools environment awards
Schools are being encouraged to sign up for the 2008 London Schools Environment Awards.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone announced details of the 2008 scheme yesterday.
Ten thousand high-visibility waistcoats have already been trialed to great success in Fircroft Community School in Wandsworth where they are used by schoolchildren to make crossing roads safer.
Upon registering for the awards, each school will receive a toolbox that is filled with items to help teachers and pupils in the classroom think about ways to protect and improve their local environment and cut harmful climate change emissions.
The six categories that schools entering are asked to focus on are litter and local environmental quality, water and waste water, waste and recycling, energy and climate change, transport to school, and biodiversity.
