Give us a phone and help raise cash for Trinity Hospice

Trinity Hospice has teamed up with Re:cycle Your Mobile to launch a campaign for unwanted mobile phones which will help to raise funds for the Clapham-based charity.

The simple scheme provides freepost envelopes so people can return their unwanted phones to Re:cycle Your Mobile and for every handset received Trinity Hospice will receive up to £10.

John Light, fundraising manager at Trinity Hospice, said: "We are delighted to be involved in a project that will help our fundraising efforts while encouraging people to discard their unwanted or outdated mobile phones in a responsible manner."

It is estimated that 60 to 90million unwanted handsets are languishing in drawers throughout the UK. With millions of new handsets being pumped into a saturated market each year, the mountain just continues to grow.

We are delighted to be involved in a project that will help our fundraising efforts while encouraging people to discard their unwanted or outdated mobile phones in a responsible manner.”

Old and unwanted used handsets, once refurbished by Re:cycle Your Mobile, can provide an affordable solution to communication problems in developing countries where the cost of a new handset is prohibitive.

The company also guarantees items that cannot be reused or resold will not end up in landfill.

Mobile phones and their batteries contain elements such as mercury, cadmium, nickel and gallium arsenide that if not disposed of carefully, can be extremely harmful to the environment.

Anything that cannot be reused or refurbished is recycled such as extracting elements such as copper.

  • Freepost envelopes are available from Trinity Hospice or from any Trinity Hospice shop or call 0800 970 5097.
