Trout to be released into Wandle
Members of the Wandle Trust are organising a trout release next Wednesday with pupils from Linden Lodge and Newton Prep Schools.
With a record 22 baby trout tanks in 20 schools along the Wandle Valley, the Wandle Trust's annual Trout in the Classroom educational programme has been a great success, reconnecting kids with their local environment.
Around the new year, as reported in our sister paper the Wandsworth Borough News, wild trout were seen spawning in the headwaters of the Wandle for perhaps the first time in 100 years - an amazing indication of how the Trout in the Classroom project has already transformed the ecological fortunes of the historic river.
The fish release will take place at Morden Hall Park in Merton on Wednesday, March 19, from 1.45pm.
There will be further releases involving pupils from other schools in the borough in early April, which you can find out more about closer to the date.
